Technology is changing everyday. As a kid, I got a cell phone. Nothing fancy, just a flip phone for basic communication. Then an iPad to play games on, a laptop for school, a better one for college, now I have my own Nikon DSLR. I work with Adobe premiere pro for film projects, Lightroom for editing photos, even have history with AutoCAD in a drafting class in high school. But I am no master of technology.

In EME2040, I hope to become more aware of technology’s vastness. I would like to become more skilled at Excel specifically. I am interested in creating the most cohesive presentations possible and working with data collection softwares, additionally.

I realize now, after completing the Learning Styles quiz, that I am a very visual, global learner, and tend to work through concepts rather than details and facts first. I understand this about myself from the ideas presented about theories; specifically, when I read books I think about the themes and go back and understand incidents that led to these themes, rather than the reverse. I greatly appreciated this quiz.

The only journey is the one within.

Haley’s high school website was very interesting and informative! I appreciated the layout and design. I love Edmodo and Kahoot! Those were used in my high school classes as well. They are very easy to use and maintain. Katie’s powerpoint assignment was very well laid out and interesting – she did a great job!

I recently applied to an internship requiring an understanding of Microsoft office Suite and Visio. Visio I have never used, and they will work with me but is it something I wish I was more acquainted with and understood so that I was more prepared for the internship. Suite I have experience with – but I wish I was better at making brochures, detailed, complex powerpoints, and the like. That way I can build up experience and get the internship and internships like this one. Although, this class has thoroughly prepared me and expanded my experience – for that I am grateful!

“The Flipped Classroom” involves technology-mediated education allowing classrooms to be outside of the physical location and online and abroad. It is very interesting to be focused on the communication patterns between students and teachers. This can be synchronous or asynchronous communication, as seen in chapter 8. Here is a flipped classroom video I found: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=the+flipped+classroom&&view=detail&mid=F186AD9B48234D0B53D3F186AD9B48234D0B53D3&&FORM=VRDGAR

I really enjoyed working on the PowerPoint presentations because it challenged me and broadened my understanding of the software. I particularly liked adding the non-linear slides. Imbedding links has always been interesting to me, and this project was pretty interesting in that aspect.

In “What I have Learned from you Posts #1-5” I found the idea of involving scholarly databases into classrooms very applicable to everyday and real-world experience and work. I also found it awesome that most of us have been around technology for a good deal of time. It is inspiring to see that experience take hold of each generation and affect their learning experience and educational career.

Augmented reality is some very advanced stuff! It adds computer-generated data to images viewed through the lens of a mobile device. It honestly looks better and more vivid than reality. This could help show students places they are learning about and do not have the capability to explore. It would also help art students a ton by enhancing everything from light and saturation to contrast and brightness.

The Digital Divide is the gap between people that do and do not have access to technology. This vastly will change the way kids without technology learn. While they have access to technology in school and learn and manipulate with and around it, they do not have the same advantages at home. Students with this access tend to have more of an upper hand than without it. Lower income can cause the digital divide or lack of understanding of technology’s impact. As a teacher, I may have to spend more time with kids outside of the classroom to help them understand certain technological learnings.

Course websites for teachers has improved my capability as a student. It fosters a better line of communication between student and teacher. I think it is very useful to stay updated, focused and on topic for each student and for the teacher. The teacher can plan their assignments and curriculum out for the year. It is very useful.

I would personally master Excel. Here is a link to google sheets, something free and very similar to Excel: https://www.google.com/sheets/about/ Excel and google sheets help to organize ideas, plan and coordinate numbers. It’s also a good way to track what has been done or is being carried out as a teacher, from attendance to participation points for students and so on. Excel or sheets helps to calculate long term numbers and makes calculating grades simple.

Chapter 5 and the podcast refer to software in the digital classroom. This is vastly important to retain a well-rounded education and experience for students. Creativity software includes graphic software and imaging software which would be a great way to retain an experienced outlook on images and videos for classroom use.

The web evaluation was very interesting. I would to make my website more interesting, colorful and personalized. I learned how to manipulate links and templates. I think if I added a page about myself and my experience it would be more beneficial to parents and new students. But the actual assignment was very interesting about coordinating an assignment especially for absent students or distracted students.

Technology can be designed to work with disabilities and to help work with our accessibility. Adaptive technology works with people who may not be able to view a monitor normally, read or type for example. A special screen may be the answer or braille keyboards. Some monitors even read for the person outload. Color blindness may prohibit people from distinguishing colors as well. These technological advances make technology accessible to a wider range of people.

The WebQuest assignment was very informative. I felt that we were properly prepared to take on the task. Viewing the example post was very helpful in visualizing what was expected of us. I think it worked out well.

This website is a first grade Blue Macow Academy classroom website. There is information about technology that is going to be used on the website which I found very applicable for this class. The teacher also uses background information about herself to connect with her students. Everything is included on this website, from a picture of her dog, links to information about arts, piano and music, welding and math, to contact information and more. She is very efficient in connecting with students and parents.

Twitter has been a lot of fun to use. I particularly enjoy sharing GIFs and retweeting things I find informational. I have connected with Haley and Meghan so far. I am enjoying using twitter and learning about news, pop culture, teaching, anything I can research! Twitter will help me to connect with students, share information and one day grow as a person through technology.

The ELA standards I am most personally acquainted with are the W/WHST.2 “Write to Explain/Inform” standards. As a creative writing major, I hope to be able to write with purpose and meaning. In this class, I am learning to include formatting, illustrations and multimedia, graphic and figures in a word document and other software. I believe this best suits my abilities because of my experience writing essays for school, in my major courses and learning to include enhancing features stated above in this class.

In the future, I would like to use an array of software for my students and with them as we learn and grow together. I would like to use the Internet as an evolving piece, such as discussion groups, mailing lists, chats and video conferencing to connect with students as needed. If I one day teach college students, this will be especially helpful to my intentions. I can communicate with them more effectively through chats, enhance their experience by communicating with each other through discussion groups, and spread information effectively through mailing lists. The Digital Citizenship guidelines I need to address most importantly are students can protect personal information about themselves and others. This creates a fair, safe environment to learn in. If every student feels safe we can effectively learn together.

The newsletter design was a great way to learn and explore my own capabilities in communicating information to an audience in an effective and timely manner. It helped me to grasp the idea of formatting information in columns and with a banner as a heading which is effective way of communicating ideas and information. I liked making it personal as well. I added quotes and fonts and colors to make it my own personal touch.

In this Dynamic Instructional Design Lesson Plan, the author has an accurate step 1: Know the Learner. The students will research the Legislative Branch of the US Government and the two houses of congress. Next, in the Articulate Objectives step #2, students will be able to analyze, describe, identify many factors to the overall idea. The lesson plan integrates technology as well in step #5 by using computers, software, the Internet and active board that will promote learning, research skills and creativity. I believe this example lesson plan demonstrates many good qualities of the Dynamic Instructional Design outlined in chapter 3. I have no critiques to the plan.

Open content and Open source refer to specific ideas about education. Seeking information online and sharing resources as a teacher is open content. It is conceptually related to copyright, and redistribution. Open source works to refer to software, its source code or programming. Many open source software like Lenox, open office and Module are all free options for any users. In the following link :https://www.opencontent.org/definition/ therein exists an extended definition of the “open” in open content and open educational resources. Overall, the article seeks to explain how these terms describe copyrightable work in the public domain and licenses in a manner that provides users with free and perpetual permission to engage in the 5R activities. These are Retain, Reuse, Revise, Remix and Redistribute.

Word has been a very helpful tool throughout my educational career. It makes it very easy to manipulate a document and create what is needed, from outlines, to resumes, newsletters to large written assignments. I’ve noticed how well my teachers in the past have used it as well. They create outlines for class with diagrams, tables, charts, links, etc. These enhancements make it easier and more interesting to learn and pay attention.

Copyright and Fair Use Guidelines for teachers is a helpful way to create a fair, legal, honest environment to learn in. I have personally needed to review the printed material guidelines in creating copies for classroom use in presentations and projects. I have also reviewed citing and crediting any illustrations and photographs taken from the web. As a teacher, I would be sure my students practiced the same awareness when creating documents and using materials from the web. It is important to cite and credit these original owners, as they would expect the same of others using their original photographs, illustrations and the like. I would also be aware of videos used within the classroom as well by giving the correct copyright holder legitimate attribution when utilizing their work.

As a teacher, I would be sure all my students have access to the technology required to succeed. Whether these students needed time outside of class, to access public computers and technologies at school or help retaining access and working and learning with technology. Another implementation of technology is the freedom of speech for all students while respecting other’s rights. This is required to create a safe environment for all students to learn; it is also necessary to learn and understand how to respect others within the workplace, a skill that will carry through to the student’s professional careers. I would make sure as an educator that each student is heard and respected when sharing or exploring within the classroom. One final implementation is cyberbullying. I would be sure to stay aware of student behavior as best as I can during class and outside of class. Staying aware, staying on top of it and staying ahead of it are the best ways to help end cyberbullying.
